Elena Martín Ortega

Born in La Rioja, Spain, she received the M. Sc. degree in Aeronautical Engineering (six-year program) in 1996 at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM), Spain, attaining the Ph. D. in 2002 in the Thermo-Fluid Dynamic departmental program at the same University. The Ph. D. Thesis "Associated Mean flows in Faraday Waves" was supervised by Professors Jose Manuel Vega and Carlos Martel and received the UPM Special Doctoral Thesis Award 2002/2003.

In 2003 she obtained the International David Crighton Fellowship for research students and postdoctoral fellows from the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP), University of Cambridge (U.K.). In 2004 she stayed at Mc Gill institute for advanced materials, Mc Gill University (Canada).

From September 1999 up to now, she works as (full time) Associate Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the Department of Mechanical, Thermal and Fluids Engineering at the University of Vigo (Spain) and is member of the ChETE Research group. From 2018 she is member of the Technological Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITMATI, now CITMAga (Spain). From 2023 she is member and secretary of the Institute of Physics and Aerospace Science IFCAE of the University of Vigo, and belongs to its Scientific Committee. She has the accreditation as Full Professor by the Spanish Education Agency ANECA.
